    • Complete a 1,000-hour administrator-in-training (AIT) internship with a HHSC-approved preceptor in a licensed nursing home with a minimum of 60 beds
The San Jac Long Term Care Administration program meets both these requirements.

No. This program is open to anyone who holds at least a bachelor’s degree and wants to take the state licensing exam. The exam is offered through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). The degree should be in business, business management, health care administration, nursing, or a closely related field.

Yes. This program meets the education and internship requirements. It also ensures you complete the coursework required to qualify for the state licensing exam and meet professional standards.

In Texas, you must also pass a national exam for licensure. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) administers this exam on behalf of the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Long Term Care Administration (NAB). NAB requires completion of specific coursework as part of, or in addition to, a bachelor’s degree. This program helps you meet those educational requirements.

Course start dates vary based on the upcoming semester. You can begin at any time by enrolling in available courses. They do not need to be taken in a specific order.

All courses are currently offered 100% online.

The internship can be taken alongside your courses or separately. While the program is designed to be completed in three semesters by taking both at the same time, you have flexibility in how you schedule your coursework and internship.

Internship hours may be paid depending on the host facility, though most are unpaid.

No, the program does not supply a list of internship sites. However, the internship coordinator can assist with the process.

The Nursing Home Administrator Licensure Board may grant a waiver to reduce the 1,000-hour internship to a 500-hour internship if certain conditions are met.

If you do not qualify for a 500 hour internship, then you'll need the complete  1000 internship hours.

It is possible to complete the program in three semesters if you you have an internship course each semester.
