Campus Police

Please do not park in the fire zones, accessible parking areas, or staff parking. During the first week of classes, the police department will issue warning notices. During the second week of school, actual citations will be issued, so please refrain from parking in areas that are not for student parking. Here is some more helpful parking information:

1. All students and employees are required to have a parking permit to park on campus. (Fine for no parking permit: 1st offense $7, 2nd offense $14, 3rd offense $28)
2. Students that are disabled may obtain a special parking permit from the Campus Business Office by providing one of the following: 
   1. A Disabled License Plate issued in their name (bring registration and ID)
   2. A Disabled Placard issued to them (bring placard and ID)
   3. A letter from the doctor. (Fine for parked in Handicap: 1st offense $25, 2nd offense $50 3rd offense $100)
3. Students and employees are not allowed to park in visitor parking (Fine for parked in visitor parking: 1st offense $15, 2nd offense $30, 3rd offense $60)
4. Students are not allowed to park in staff parking. (Fine for parked in Staff: 1st offense $15, 2nd offense $30, 3rd offense $60)
5. No one is allowed to back into parking spaces. (Fine for backed into parking space: 1st offense $7, 2nd offense $14, 3rd offense $28)
6. All vehicles must be parked within a laned space. (Fine for failure to park within a laned space: 1st offense $15, 2nd offense $30, 3rd offense $60)
7. Parking in a NO parking zone is not allowed. (Fine for parked in a NO Parking Zone: 1st Offense $25, 2nd Offense $50, 3rd Offense $100) 
8. Parking along roadways, on a lawn or in driveways is not allowed. (Fine for parked on a roadway, lawn or in a driveway: 1st Offense $15, 2nd Offense $30, 3rd Offense $60)
9. Campus speed limits: Street – 15 mph, Parking Lots – 10 mph (Campus Fines for all moving Violations: 1st Offense $20, 2nd Offense $40, 3rd Offense $80)

If you feel a ticket is unjust, you may file a ticket appeal form which is available at the police department. After completing the appeal, return it to the police department for routing to the administrator in charge of appeals on the respective campus.

Tickets appeals are forward to the Dean of Student Development. 

The student must make this appeal within 10 school days or two weeks from the day the ticket was received. The student shall then check with the police department, within 72 hours after the appeal is submitted, for the decision of the administrator in charge of appeals.

Appeals will not be accepted after the aforementioned time limit. 

A $2 late fee will be added to the fine if the ticket is not appealed or paid within the time limit.

The above information and appeal procedure is applicable to college citations only. 

If charges are filed with a court of law, normal criminal justice system procedure will prevail. 

Our campus traffic laws are about the same as those that apply off campus. Here are some of the most common infractions. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the campus police department.

Moving violations: 

• Driving without valid driver's license
• Failure to show proof of liability insurance
• Exceeding the speed limit
• Running stop signs or red lights
• Driving the wrong way on a one-way street
• Failure to grant right-of-way to pedestrians

Other violations:

• Parking along the street
• Backing into a parking space
• Failure to display a valid San Jacinto College parking permit
• Failure to properly affix a parking permit
• Parking in any area restricted by signs or a yellow border
• Parking in loading zones
• Parking in driveways
• Parking on the wrong side of the street
• Failure to park within lines of individually marked spaces 
• Parking in areas not designated for parking (on grass, esplanade, sidewalks, etc.)
• Failure to take care of a ticket in the required time
• Parking in a reserved parking space (visitor, staff, motorcycle, etc.)
• Displaying a fictitious or defaced parking permit
• Falsification of vehicle registration information to obtain a parking permit Altering, damaging or moving college traffic signs, markers or signal devices
• Littering
• Failure to obey request or direction of a college police officer
• Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages on campus (inside a vehicle on campus constitutes possession)
• Possession of firearms, explosive weapons, or illegal knives on campus, which is a third-degree felony

Accident reports are not provided to the public by Campus Police. This document reflects the signature of the custodian of motor vehicle crash records as well as the official Texas Department of Transportation seal.

There will be two kinds of accident reports you can purchase: a certified report ($8.00) or uncertified report ($6.00). You may select only one option. Certified reports are usually required for legal proceedings, employment verification, etc. The report includes documentation that the crash report provided is a true and correct copy of the peace officer's report that was filed.
